Build a two-step, verifiable email-processing workflow: Zapier watches Gmail and saves the details of complaint emails into structured spreadsheet rows.
In this exercise you build an automation that watches the Gmail account for complaint emails and automatically saves their key details into a Google Sheet. How the finished Zap works: when a new email with “panaszlevél” (complaint) in the subject arrives, Zapier creates a new row in the register — the sheet shows the arrival time, the sender's name, the sender's email address, the subject, whether it counts as urgent, and the message body. The whole workflow uses fictional test data, and the final decision always belongs to a human.
In this exercise you will learn: how Zapier can watch a Gmail account; how to use Gmail search conditions; how to process only emails with a certain subject; how to build a structured Google Sheet; how to save the parts of an email into separate columns; how to connect Gmail and Google Sheets; how to test an email-based trigger; how to use dynamic data; how to decide with a spreadsheet formula whether an email is urgent; and how to test and publish the automation.
It is worth splitting the exercise into parts. Suggested schedule:
Important: Zapier's Free plan currently provides Zaps with one trigger and one action, 100 tasks per month and a 15-minute polling interval for periodically polling triggers. This exercise consists of one trigger and one action, so it fits that structure. Plan limits and interface description verified: 2 August 2026.
Tip: The motto of this exercise: FILTER. STRUCTURE. VERIFY. — the flow is Gmail → Zapier → Sheets throughout, with exactly 1 trigger + 1 action.
