Build a working no-code workflow: a new form response automatically appears as a structured message in the shared Slack channel.
In this exercise you build a simple automation, a so-called Zap: when someone fills in a Google Form, Zapier automatically sends a notification about the submitted data to a Slack channel. By the end you will have a workflow where you do not need to keep opening the form to check new registrations — you get notified about new responses automatically in Slack. This is not generative AI: it is a rule-based automation (IF a new response arrives, THEN send a Slack message).
In this exercise you will learn: what automation is; what a trigger and an action are; how to build a Google Form; how to link a form to Google Sheets; how to create a simple Zap; how to connect your Google and Slack accounts to Zapier; how to test the trigger; how to use dynamic data from a previous step; how to compose an automatic Slack message; and how to test and publish the automation.
It is worth splitting the exercise into parts. Suggested schedule:
Warning: A new Zapier account may automatically come with a 14-day Pro trial. Even so, do not add extra actions, filters or other steps in this exercise, because the automation must keep working on the free plan after the trial. The Free plan currently supports 100 tasks per month and two-step Zaps — one trigger and one action.
Important: Plan limits and interface description verified: 2 August 2026. The motto of this exercise: TRIGGER. ACTION. TESTING. — the flow: 01 Form submission → 02 Automatic processing → 03 Slack notification (Google Forms → Zapier → Slack).
