Measure how much faster dictation is than typing: produce a typed control, a default dictation and a dictionary-improved one, then an e-mail draft with a snippet, and calculate the time saved alongside the error scores.
Wispr Flow is an AI speech-to-text tool: you press its shortcut, speak, and it inserts the processed text into the current field. It does not simply transcribe verbatim: Smart Formatting removes filler words, adds punctuation and paragraphs, formats lists, and interprets self-corrections made mid-speech. In this exercise you process the same short, entirely fictional set of information in several rounds: first typed by hand, then dictated with default settings, and finally improved with your own dictionary and a personal snippet. In every round you time the work, count the errors, and treat only the verified text as finished. Dictation only saves time if what remains after checking and correcting is still accurate, safe and usable.
In this exercise you learn: when dictation beats typing, and how to measure that fairly; how the system handles Hungarian text, numbers and punctuation; how to teach it rare names and specialist terms with the personal dictionary; how to insert a frequently used block of text by voice with a snippet; how to correct a sentence mid-speech and what Backtrack does with it; how to weight errors from a critical factual mistake down to a minor formatting slip; and what content must never be sent to cloud-based dictation.
Warning: Cost protection: as of September 2026, the free desktop plan indicates a base allowance of 2,000 words per week, though the specific offer can differ by account. This exercise can be completed within roughly 500-700 dictated words. If the system asks for payment details or a mandatory plan change, do not pay: stop and ask for help.
Warning: If a checkpoint fails, stop. Speed alone is not a result if the text is wrong or unsafe.
