Have AI categorize and summarize incoming emails, log the result, then route and label the messages automatically.
In this exercise you build an AI-powered email-sorting automation with Make.com. The finished system watches for new emails in your Gmail account; an AI module reads the subject and the body and classifies the message into one of four categories (Munka, Pénzügy, Hírlevél, Egyéb); it writes a short summary; saves the key data into a Google Sheet; then a Router sends the email along separate paths and automatically applies the matching Gmail label. Compared to the earlier Zapier exercises, here the AI does not just forward data — it interprets it and decides based on the result.
In this exercise you will learn: how a Make Scenario works; how to use multiple chained modules; how to watch for new Gmail messages; how to pass email text to an AI module; how to classify text with AI; how to create an automatic summary; how to pass data between modules; how to store processed data in Google Sheets; what a Router is; how to build separate paths; how to use Filters; how to create a fallback path; how to update Gmail labels automatically; how to test with several different inputs; and how to verify the AI's decisions.
Make's current free plan provides 1000 credits per month, Routers and Filters, up to 2 active Scenarios, and a minimum 15-minute run interval for scheduled automations. Plan conditions can change, so check Make's current pricing before you start.
Important: The Make AI Toolkit used in this exercise works on the free plan with Make's own AI provider, so you do not need a separate OpenAI or Claude API key for this practice. The credit usage of AI modules can also depend on the chosen model and the length of the processed text.
Warning: Important: during the lesson we always use the Run once test run, and we do not leave the Scenario active at the end of the exercise.
Tip: The motto of this exercise: WATCH. INTERPRET. ROUTE. VERIFY. — the four stages of the flow: 01 WIRING (Gmail watching) → 02 AI (category + summary) → 03 LOG (Google Sheets) → 04 ROUTING (labeling + test).
