Create a working, good-looking to-do list app in a single HTML file — no coding background needed, guided by ChatGPT.
In this exercise you build a simple but impressive to-do list application (a todo app). You do not need to be a programmer, and you do not need to understand every line of code: ChatGPT writes the code, and your job is to follow the steps, then test and verify the result. By the end you will have your own app where you can add tasks, mark them done, edit and delete them, filter between open and finished items, and — in a supported browser — your tasks will survive closing and reopening the page.
In this exercise you will learn: how to ask ChatGPT for a simple web application; how to create an HTML file with Windows Notepad; how to open your own website in the browser; the difference between a locally running and a public website; and how to share an HTML file with others.
HTML is a file format that browsers can open as a website. In this exercise we use a single HTML file because one file can hold the page's content, its styling and its logic — you do not need to juggle multiple files or complicated developer tools. The finished HTML file can simply be opened with a double click, and the app starts in your browser.
Important: Important difference: your finished app is a locally running website — usable primarily on the computer where the file lives, without a public internet link, and others can only open it if you send them the HTML file. Making it publicly reachable would require a publishing (deployment) step later.
Tip: The AI helps — you give the instruction, save the code, try out the features and verify the result. You do not need to know every line of code: the goal is a good instruction, conscious testing and safe verification.
